Random worries....

Well, the doctors appointment was on Tuesday.  I went in not expecting much, but, he told me that my knee had some fluid in it and that the reason I was still having pain was because the tendons were frayed.  He suggested surgery.  Err...no thank you.  Then he said 'Oh, by the way, this shoulder clicking you're hearing?  That's not normal either.  Same thing is wrong with your shoulder.'  I didn't even know my shoulder was messed up.  I mean, I'm always getting numbness in my shoulder blades, but I didn't really connect it to anything.  The doctor goes on to tell me that I should expect to lean over one day to pick up a jug of laundry detergent and rip the crap out of the shoulder.  Yikes.  He gave me plenty of medicine, though, which was nice.  I kind of don't want anyone touching my knee for a while.  All that poking and twisting messed up my knee again.

The dog, Paco, has been yelping every time he lays down today, and he's been sticking close to me, which has me worried.  This dog is MY baby, y'know?  I just hope it isn't the same condition that one of my other dogs had.  Peeky had some severe spine issues and ended up being put to sleep because of the pain she was in.  ::sigh::

Sorry this is such a downer entry.....today is kinda sucking, though.....

  1. Didn't your doctor suggest Physical Therapy? That is odd! I would do everything prior to surgery. I had surgery last fall on my foot (repair tendon which was 92% gone to get 50% back) and it tore this summer, then others tearing & tendonitis, tarsal tunnel syndrome etc. I have this new PT & they use a machine with topical cortisone & ions, ultrasound, TENS unit & massage & exercise. I would think some of those things would help! I also go to an accupuncturist when I can & that helps tremendously for some of my pain, especially sciatic nerve! I'd inquire about PT at least! Hope you find some relieve some way. And hope your baby is able to get to the doctor as well & get out of pain. They so rely on us to help them.

  2. I would definitely take Paco on to the vet.  I know I had a really bad scare with Mary Jane within the last two months.  They never could tell me what happened, but at least she got better after they put her on an antibiotic.  It was a NIGHTMARE, because she is MY baby, so I can certainly empathize!

As for the surgery on your knee and shoulder, if you need it, then you should get it.  I have had shoulder surgery, and while it was not pleasant, I did survive and have had NO trouble with it since the surgery and PT.  If it will better your quality of life, you should go for it, girlfriend.  It is better than living in pain all the time and if you end up tearing it, you will HAVE to have the surgery and it will be MUCH worse.  Just my opinion.  I have had 3-4 surgeries in my time.  I'm still here!~

    Blessings!~

  3. Yech, bad news all around!!  If your knee is bothering you then you SHOULD get the surgery now before it gets worse.  As far as the shoulder, you can wait on that for a bit, but definately get the knee taken care of.  I believe it's an outpatient surgery, so it's not like you will have to stay in the hospital for long.  Your poor doggie!  I would call the vet and make an appointment, sounds like the little guy is in pain.  :(

  8. So sorry to here about your knee.  I really understand this one because Rob has fluid on his knee right now and two torn ligaments.  He is having surgery November 4th.  He will be off work for two weeks and in therapy for quite some time.  We're taking a mini vacation at that time at the beach.  We really need it too.  I so can't wait.

  10. OMG Amy I have the same problem in my shoulder.  My right one constantly "creeks and crackles"...Chriopractor told me it was gas, stuck in pockets and the noise was it escaping, called Crepidis, sorry don't know the correct spelling.  I have a huge knot to the right of the base of my neck the size of a golf ball...I feel your pain.

Poor pup!  Maybe he has a belly ache/problem?

I'll keep you both in my thoughts!

  12. Why does getting old have to suck so much???!!!  I've been getting random numbness in various places lately.  That's probably not good.

  13. How are you and Paco feeling today, Punkin?  I hope like hell you can get the knee and shoulder taken care of one way or another before they get worse.  Paco...is a big dog.  Big dogs (as I'm sure you know) can have a lot of joint trouble.  My golden retriever had hip displaysia, but he did really well with the painkillers/anti-inflammatories that the vet gave us for him.  This was when I was a teenager, so there's undoubtedly even better meds and treatments for him now.
