Her name was Lola.....

Because I can hear all the echoing in the halls of AOL, I'm free to pull a 'Breakfast Club' stunt and do something goofy.  Y'all know you wanna sing along.....

Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl
With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there
She would merengue and do the cha-cha
And while she tried to be a star
Tony always tended bar
Across the crowded floor, they worked from 8 til 4
They were young and they had each other
Who could ask for more?

[Chorus:]
At the copa (CO!) Copacabana (Copacabana)
The hottest spot north of Havana (here)
At the copa (CO!) Copacabana
Music and passion were always in fashion
At the copa.... they fell in love

His name was Rico
He wore a diamond
He was escorted to his chair, he saw Lola dancing there
And when she finished,he called her over
But Rico went a bit to far
Tony sailed across the bar
And then the punches flew and chairs were smashed in two
There was blood and a single gun shot
But just who shot who?

[Chorus]

At the copa... she lost her love

Her name is Lola, she was a showgirl,
But that was 30 years ago, when they used to have a show
Now it's a disco, but not for Lola,
Still in dress she used to wear,
Faded feathers in her hair
She sits there so refined, and drinks herself half-blind
She lost her youth and she lost her Tony
Now she's lost her mind

[Chorus]

At the copa... don't fall in love
Don't fall in love

  3. I have MANY Barry Manilow albums, lol.  I remember playing records all the time in Palmer Lake, CO and a neighbor I used to babysit for had a daughter my daughter's age and a 5-year-old.  The five-year-old did not know what a record was.  She said, "What is that?"  I laughed and said, "A really big CD."  ROFL.  I Love Barry.......

    Blessings!~

  9. LMAO....my girlfriend and I (when we were 12) created an entire dance to this song, even went to K-Mart for matching dresses so that we could perform for the parents. We never did though....I loved Barry. I wanted to marry him. Before I realized that he probably wrote this song for Tony....lol. ;o)

  11. y'know, I'm 13 and I really don't want to know that song, but I do. Now it's all up in my head. Gee thanks. Now I feel compelled to put this here as a way of getting back at you:

I'm a Barbie girl in a Barbie world
    Life in plastic, it's fantastic
You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
    Imagination, life is your creation

Sine that song gets on my nerves that is as far as we'll go with that one...
